About the RoleA leading contemporary art gallery based in New York is seeking a highly organized and experienced Senior Accountant / Bookkeeper to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the business. This is a hands-on role with broad responsibility across accounting, reporting, compliance, and payroll.The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly reliable, and comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, with the judgment and experience to own and continuously improve financial processes with minimal oversight.Key Responsibilities· Manage full-cycle bookkeeping in QuickBooks, including accounts payable and receivable· Process payments (wires, checks, and online platforms) and monitor incoming funds· Reconcile bank accounts and track financial activity across multiple platforms (e.g., Square, PayPal, credit cards)· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports· Coordinate with external accountants and prepare documentation for tax filings· Manage multi-state sales tax filings and ensure ongoing compliance· Oversee payroll (via Paychex or similar), including commissions and benefits administration· Administer 401(k) contributions, insurance payments, and related reporting· Maintain accurate financial records and support year-end close· Monitor cash flow and support general financial operations as neededQualifications· 5+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, ideally within a small to mid-sized business· Strong proficiency in QuickBooks· Experience with multi-state sales tax filings and compliance· Familiarity with payroll and benefits administration· Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills· Ability to work independently and manage multiple prioritiesPreferred· Experience working in an art gallery or similar business· Familiarity with ArtBase or other art inventory systems is a strong plus· Comfortable working in a small, collaborative team environmentHow to ApplyPlease submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience.
