GDB NYC - OPERATIONS ART HANDLER: General: - Relocates inventory (relevant for insurance purposes, gallery layout internal organization and deliveries) - Physically changes price label/tape at back of artwork when informed of price changes by registrar - Installs artwork and exhibitions- Minimum 5 years experience as an Art Handler Reception of Artwork: Note: Verify checklist re: procedures and considerations for art reception-How to store art varies with each artist ; some setups are more elaborate while others arrive simply by truck.- Ensures artwork matches information indicated in order/paperwork - Informs registrar of any discrepancies ie: defects or if dimensions do not match, etc. - Responsible for documents and miscellaneous information sent with artwork from their artists - Fixes materials that came with artwork to back of piece ie: proof work comes from the artist - Creates a physical file that stores artwork info. ie: boxes and all materials identifying the editions Redistribution of Inventory: - Posts any redistribution or shipping of inventory on Artlogic (for all requests including sales) - Sold room/aka loose room storage once a painting is packed and ready to be shipped. - Provides paperwork to shipping along with a conditions report (including coordinates for delivery or information for dhl international pickup). - Updates data in Artlogic to allow other departments (ie: registrar) to access accurate status/location, condition reports, framing notes and notes related to specific art handling protocols requested by the artists re: special installations. Inventory: - Performs spot checks, ie: 2 artists per week done to confirm the art is actually in our possession. 2 people from different departments/roles should do it together. - Performs physical recap of inventory (registrar list complete inventory) . proceeding by artist, by location - Sold room/Loose room - manage all inventory (effecting accounting and registrar dept) (short term storage with few long term scenarios ie: interior designers or if clients are out of the country for a season etc.) Shipping Artwork: - Reviews documents and instructions provided by shipping department and prepares artwork for shipment (ie: objects in crates, labelling crates with coordinates etc., include shipping documents required for customs or other, ensure they are packed and ready with client i.d.) - Prepares orders for framing- Prepares orders with packing materials (or special instructions by artist) - Participates in local deliveries (drives or accompanies) . Responsible for unpacking and mounting artwork- Prepares international deliveries as instructed by manager based on information provided by shipping, etc.
