Argosy Book Store is New York City’s oldest independently run antiquarian bookstore. We specialize in rare, out-of-print, and collectible books, prints, maps, and autographs, serving collectors, scholars, and institutions from around the world. We are seeking a full-time Sales Associate / Cataloguer to join our team.Must be available to work Saturdays.Looking for individuals with an interest in rare books, bibliography, literary history, or collecting who are comfortable with sales and customer service in a specialized bookstore environment. Must enjoy working with the public and engaging with historical material. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is adaptable, works well both independently and as part of a team, and who will be a positive addition to our small, collaborative workplace. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are essential.Key Responsibilities:Greet visitors.Strong customer service skills.Sales, both in-store, online or over the phone.Draft and manage professional correspondence with customers.Cataloguing and photographing new acquisitions in our inventory database. Extreme care when handling valuable material.Key Requirements:Bachelor’s degree.Must work productively in a fast-paced retail environment, and multi-task with ease.High level of discretion, reliability, and professionalism.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Professional appearance and friendly demeanor, punctuality, and positive attitude. Ability to lift (occasionally) up to 50 pounds and to assist with some manual labor tasks, when necessary.Preferred:Experience in a bookstore, library, archive, or similar cultural institution or retail environment. Familiarity with rare or antiquarian books. Social media experience.
