Hours: Part TimeDescription:DEPARTMENT Information Technology REPORTS TO Senior Director of Academic Computing and Support JOB SUMMARY The Academic Support Technician is a part-time position in the Department of Information Technology, reporting to the Senior Director of Academic Computing and Support. The position requires maintaining the existing technical infrastructure of the Media Lab and Digital Architecture Studio; managing, mentoring, and training student workers; and working with the Manager to provide Apple and Windows desktop support for the Digital Studio in the Foundation Building and Media Lab in 41 Cooper Square. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide technical assistance to students, faculty, and staff with imaging/scanning, audio/video, presentation; large- format file preparation and printing Provide 3D modeling and printing support to students, faculty, and staff Provide general support for software and hardware related questions/issues Perform routine maintenance and support for both Mac and PC hardware and software in the Digital Studio and Media LabAssist Manager in training students on the lab’s 3D printing protocols and procedures; assist in training students on use of large-format plotters Assist Manager in training student workers to serve as effective peer-staff in the Digital Studio and Media Lab. Instruct students in daily and weekly tasks and studio protocols and work flows as well as in professional work habits. Assist Manager in keeping inventory of consumables for printers and plotters. Participate in weekly IT staff meetings SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of technologies necessary to support the Digital Studio including: Windows & Mac OS; MS Office Applications; Adobe CC Suite; Rhino; AutoCAD; 3D printing software such as Cura and PreForm. Blender and Fusion 360 a plus. Photogrammetry experience with Metashape or AutoDesk ReCap preferred Experience with 3D desktop printing (filament and Stereolithography) Good understanding of file preparation and procedure for 3D output Ability to direct student workers Ability to work independently Ability to provide leadership and guidance to students EDUCATION Bachelors Degree required Rate - $28.00 - $36.00 per hour, DOE This is a unionized position.The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art is an Equal Opportunity Employer.Email materials to: hr@cooper.edu
