A world-renowned artist’s studio is hiring an individual to work as a studio manager to the artist. This dynamic role would be an exciting and unique opportunity to work closely with the artist and his assistants. This job would require a minimum 5-year agreement. As a studio manager this individual must be cognizant of the extensive role of the galleries and their representatives, including the owners, directors, sales team, and registrars, all of whom represent the artist’s best interests. This individual would manage logistical aspects of artworks traveling to and from the studio and would be required to work with the storage facility that houses many of the artist’s works. The team is looking for a highly motivated, well-rounded individual with a positive attitude and good sense of humor, who is cognizant that every task is integral to the artist’s practice and the extensive demands of the art world. A serious understanding of the art market and the artist’s oeuvre is necessary. A passion for art and knowledge of art history is critical. The individual should also have an understanding of the contemporary art world and an innate empathy for the specific pressures of the artist’s role in the industry. This individual would take direction from the artist to efficiently execute a diverse range of tasks and anticipate the artist’s needs effectively. This manager will gain a full understanding from the assistants of what their roles are in order to facilitate a cohesive and harmonious studio environment. They will liaise with assistants who organize all travel, manage the artist’s personal commitments and assist in the studio. They will learn the artist’s preferences and proactively organize plans accordingly. They will work with the accountants on consignment agreements and monthly sales statements from the galleries, expertly analyzing and interpreting the data. They should have a comprehensive understanding of the inventory and collector information to expedite the seamless operation of the artist’s foundation. This manager would be based in New York City with availability for requisite domestic and international travel. The manager must carry themselves with a consummately professional demeanor at all times. Qualifications:-BA or MA in Art History or related field-2+ years of experience working as a manager in an arts related role-Understanding of painting and art materials used by the artist-Excellent organization skills and efficacy to accurately execute tasks in a demanding environment-Impeccable verbal and written communication skills-Manager must be available either in person or over the phone beyond conventional working hours, including weekends-Extreme care when handing valuable artwork-Exceptionally proactive and self-motivated-The ability to work closely with others in a collaborative environment and to exercise impeccable sound judgement when taking initiative-A high level of professional discretion-Excellent creative problem-solving skills-A high level of emotional intelligence-Ability to interview potential new employees-A valid driver’s license and valid passport required-Ability to lift 50 pounds and help with manual labor tasks when necessary-Proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign, and Microsoft Office Suite-Experience in SketchUp or 3-D modeling software preferred-Experience with public relations, press and media a plus
