Job Description
A leading healthcare organization in Burlington, MA is seeking an experienced Risk Manager for an 8-week hybrid assignment. This role supports the hospital’s Risk Management Department, which consists of three specialists responsible for reviewing lawsuits, claims, incident reports, and potential malpractice matters. The Risk Manager will analyze cases, determine risk exposure, and collaborate with the hospital’s malpractice insurer when appropriate.
This position requires strong analytical skills, understanding of hospital operations, and expertise in risk mitigation within a clinical environment.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze incoming lawsuits, claims, and incident reports.
- Evaluate risk exposure, identify contributing factors, and recommend appropriate actions.
- Determine when to escalate cases to the hospital’s malpractice insurance carrier.
- Collaborate with legal counsel, insurers, and internal clinical departments as needed.
- Participate in root cause analyses (RCA) and risk reduction initiatives.
- Provide documentation, summaries, and reports related to risk assessments.
- Support ongoing risk mitigation strategies across the hospital system.
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with regulatory standards.
Requirements
- Prior Risk Management experience is imperative
- Strong understanding of hospital operations, clinical workflows, and risk mitigation principles
- Experience with malpractice processes and communication with malpractice insurers
- Excellent analytical, investigative, and communication skills
Education
- Master’s in Nursing (MSN) – Preferred
- Bachelor’s or equivalent clinical/administrative background may be considered based on experience
