Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Sterile Processing Tech (SPT) Manager to lead and support our Sterile Processing Department. This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring adherence to safety and sterilization protocols, and providing leadership to staff to maintain high-quality standards in instrument processing and operating room support. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator, a strong team leader, and knowledgeable in all aspects of sterile processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily activities of the sterile processing team to ensure efficient workflow and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Manage and monitor instrument decontamination, sterilization, assembly, and distribution processes.
- Ensure proper documentation, quality assurance, and adherence to hospital policies and industry guidelines.
- Provide training, coaching, scheduling, and performance evaluations for sterile processing staff.
- Collaborate with operating room leaders, surgeons, and clinical departments to ensure availability of properly sterilized instruments and equipment.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to support patient safety and operational efficiency.
- Maintain inventory levels, troubleshoot equipment issues, and ensure proper maintenance of sterilization equipment.
- Uphold and enforce safety protocols, infection control standards, and regulatory compliance (e.g., AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission).
Required Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in sterile processing, operating room, or a related clinical setting.
- 1–3 years of demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience in a healthcare environment.
Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support) from the American Heart Association (AHA) — required
- Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) certification — required
