A contemporary art gallery in downtown Manhattan is looking for a hands-on gallery assistant. It is a role for an administrator with existing art gallery or museum experience that will allow you to grow with the gallery and to play a significant role in its operations. A minimum of 2-year commitment is expected.The assistant would be fulfilling the following tasks:create check lists, PDFs, mailings, sales materials, press releases and inventory lists, manage client database. Administration is in the core of this role, so attention to detail is key.edit images in Photoshop and InDesign and create invites, wall signs and other visuals. The knowledge of this software is important.manage website, Artsy, Seesaw and other online platformsgreet visitors and act as the first point of contact for the gallery. Polished demeanor necessary.assist with organizing openings and events, so you would occasionally need to stay after hoursassist with shipping and some art handling tasksperform other administrative and registrarial duties as neededRequirements: Experience working for an art gallery or museum requiredFamiliarity with Google Suite, Office Suite, Adobe Suite and Photoshop. If you have experience in designing exhibition brochures and art fair booths – a plusArt writing and editing skills desired; good writing skills requiredSolid organization skills and acute attention and punctualityStrong people skills as this would be a public facing roleFamiliarity with local and international art shipping practices, packing, crating and installation, experience in stretching canvases - any of these skills would be a plusDegree in art or art history preferredPositive and proactive attitude and mature approach to challengesThis is a very hands-on role, so a startup, can-do attitude and resilience are importantStart date: ImmediateThis role may start with a three-to-four days pro-rated schedule and transition into a full-time position
