An established contemporary artist studio seeks an archival professional to assess, refine, and strengthen the systems, workflows, and long-term stewardship of a significant and continually evolving artist archive and collection. The archive includes original records, correspondence, research materials, exhibition documentation, publications, and other materials related to the artist\'s practice and studio activities.This project-based consulting role offers the opportunity to improve the organization, accessibility, preservation, and management of an active archive that continues to grow alongside the artist\'s ongoing work.Scope of WorkAssess current archival systems, workflows, and documentation practices.Review existing cataloging, metadata, and archival records for consistency, accuracy, and completeness.Evaluate current archival practices and recommend improvements.Develop and document best practices for organization, description, preservation, and access.Provide archival oversight and strategic guidance for exhibitions, publications, and special projects, ensuring accurate documentation, coordinated workflows, and adherence to established archival standards.Establish quality-control procedures to support ongoing archival work.Work with studio leadership and the existing archivist to implement approved recommendations and integrate new workflows into daily practice.Assist in developing systems that support future exhibitions, publications, research initiatives, and other studio projects.Prepare written assessments, implementation plans, and project recommendations.QualificationsMLIS, MA, PhD, or equivalent training in Archival Studies, Library Science, Museum Studies, Art History, Information Science, or a related field.Knowledge of archival standards, metadata practices, and collections management principles.Experience with archival databases and cataloging systems preferred, specifically ArtLogicExperience working with artist archives, museums, libraries, foundations, galleries, or cultural institutions preferred.Strong organizational, analytical, project management, and communication skills.Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with studio staff.Ability to lift and move archival boxes and materials weighing up to 40 pounds.This role is ideal for a candidate interested in helping shape the future of a living artist archive while gaining experience with archival strategy, collections stewardship, and information management in a contemporary art studio environment.
