Anicka Yi Studio is seeking a full-time designer to support the development of new artworks, commissioned installations, and creative collaborations. This role requires translating conceptual ideas and iterating towards detailed design drawings with clear construction logic that can be interpreted by fabricators. Experience designing for fabrication and communicating directly with fabricators is highly desired. The designer will work closely with the artist, report to the studio director, and coordinate regularly with the director of exhibitions, as well as the artwork production manager. The ideal candidate has a strong 3D and 2D design background, a keen sense of form and material, and the ability to produce accurate, professional-level design documentation. You will work closely with our team to create compelling, production-ready designs for sculpture and installation-based artworks. An understanding of contemporary art and familiarity with Anicka Yi’s practice are essential for aligning with the studio’s visual language, material sensibility, and conceptual frameworks.Key Responsibilities:Develop design drawings, renderings, and models that clearly communicate structure, materials, and assembly logicProduce precise technical documentation suitable for external fabrication, including construction drawings, exploded diagrams, and material calloutsTranslate abstract or conceptual input into designs that balance feasibility and artistic visionCollaborate with the studio team through iterative design feedback cyclesLiaise with fabricators to clarify design intent, material selections, and production constraintsMaintain organized digital files and version-controlled design assets for each projectQualifications:Proficiency in design and drafting software (e.g., Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, Blender, etc.). Proficiency with office and project management software such as Google Office Suite, Miro, and Asana.Multi-phase experience designing for fabrication, including knowledge of material behaviors, structure, and scaleFamiliarity with fabrication processes such as CNC routing, 3D printing, casting, glass, or metalworking is a plus. Familiarity with both indoor and outdoor installations is also a plus.Ability to communicate visually and verbally with both artists and technicians through each design phaseStrong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a bias towards collaborationAbility to manage multiple deadlines and work independently when neededBackground in sculpture, industrial design, or architecture preferredKnowledge of contemporary art and familiarity with the work of Anicka Yi requiredFour years of full-time professional experience. B.A. or B.S. in the fields of industrial design, architecture, sculpture, or a closely related field. Masters Degree preferred.Additional Information:This is a full-time position within a highly collaborative team. The workplace is hybrid. Mondays and Fridays are remote. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are onsite. Working hours are 10am-6pm. Occasional attendance of related opening receptions or events is welcomed but not required.
