Petzel is a contemporary art gallery in New York with an eclectic program of international artists, all of whom are critically acclaimed for their distinct creative processes. Petzel operates out of the heart of Chelsea at West 25th Street. All Petzel staff are expected to have an interest in the commercial art world. Overview Reporting to the Gallery Manager, the Gallery Assistant is welcoming to all visitors entering the gallery. The Gallery Assistant aids in tasks that contribute to the efficient operation of the gallery, focusing on administrative support for all gallery staff. This role combines the unique ability and opportunity to perform many day-to-day as well as big-picture tasks on a regular basis. Core Responsibilities Proactively and warmly interact with clients, vendors and general publicAnswer incoming calls, return voicemails, and manage inquiries to general inbox Memorize names and faces of important contacts to alert sales team and senior management of their presence in the galleryUtilize internal tracking documents to keep entire Petzel team aware of progress on exhibition and art fair planningOpen and close galleryRepresent the gallery, artist and exhibition missionsProvide administrative support to all gallery staff Update contacts on internal database Track and order all office and kitchen supplies Maintain the appearance of the gallery and front office space Update exhibition materials such as checklists, pricelists, public sign-in book and mailing listAssist in staffing, planning, and managing events including all exhibition openings, press previews, and other gallery eventsBackup for Gallery Assistant, Bookstore responsibilities Qualifications Must have at least 1 year of administrative experience, preferably in a commercial art gallery Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills Must pay precise attention to detail and have strong organizational skillsMust possess the ability to work independently Preferred Skills At least 1 year of customer service experience, preferably in the art sector Proficiency in a foreign language Familiarity with Artlogic Schedule Tuesday- Saturday, 9:45am- 6:00pm
