About the Vilcek FoundationWhat We DoThe Vilcek Foundation raises awareness of immigrant contributions in the United States and fosters appreciation of the arts and sciences.Who We AreThe foundation was established in 2000 by Jan and Marica Vilcek, immigrants from the former Czechoslovakia. Our mission was inspired by the couple\'s respective careers in biomedical science and art history, as well as their personal experiences and appreciation for the opportunities offered to them as newcomers to the United States.ResponsibilitiesThe Social Media Intern supports the foundation\'s digital communications by contributing to the day-to-day management of its social media presence. This position works across the Communications and Digital departments, assisting with content creation, platform engagement, and visual production across the foundation\'s social media channels.Social Media and ContentDraft captions and copy for the foundation\'s social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and others.Support the President, Rick Kinsel, with social media content, strategy, audio-visual production, and creative media needs, including drafting posts, preparing visual assets, and developing platform-specific approaches that amplify his voice and presence.Conduct research to identify relevant topics, hashtags, and timely opportunities for social media content.Contribute ideas for campaigns, content themes, and series that align with the foundation\'s mission and programs.Assist with scheduling and publishing posts using social media management tools.Review, proofread, and fact-check social media copy prior to publishing.Monitor the foundation\'s social media accounts and engage with followers as appropriate.Identify and follow like-minded individuals, artists, scientists, organizations, and partners to grow the foundation\'s community.Track and report on social media engagement metrics and audience growth.Create and edit graphics, images, and other visual assets for social media using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.Resize and format images for use across multiple platforms.Support the Digital Media Coordinator with the production of visual content for campaigns and institutional initiatives. Research and Administration ProjectsAssist with maintaining the social media content calendar.Research and compile social media account information on prizewinners, grantees, and organizational partners.Assist in developing a social media handbook documenting the foundation\'s tone, voice, style, and visual guidelines.Assist with campaign-related social media tasks, as needed.Help organize and archive digital assets, including images, graphics, and captions.Support the Communications and Digital teams with additional tasks as needed.Learning OpportunitiesTraining on social media management platforms, including SproutSocial.Participate in regular one-on-one check-ins with supervisors to discuss projects, goals, and growth.Attend internal meetings to gain exposure to social media strategy, editorial planning, and campaign development.Meet informally with staff across the Communications and Digital departments to learn about career pathways in arts nonprofits and philanthropy.Gain practical experience contributing to campaigns and initiatives for a nationally recognized foundation.Build a portfolio of social media content produced for a public-facing arts and culture foundation.QualificationsCurrent undergraduate student or recent graduate in Communications, Marketing, Art History, or a related field, or equivalent experience.Strong interest in arts, culture, immigration, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector.Familiarity with major social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and TikTok.Excellent written communication skills with attention to tone and institutional voice.Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with strong attention to detail.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.The candidate must be authorized to work in the United States. Required Skills and ExperienceExperience with social media content creation preferred.Proficiency with Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud (especially Photoshop or Illustrator) preferred.Familiarity with social media scheduling tools (e.g. SproutSocial) preferred.Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Sheets).Comfort working in a Mac-based environment. Physical RequirementsThis is a full-time, on-site position. The position is primarily a sedentary role. However, the person in this position may need to occasionally move about inside the office to liaise with staff, access files, office equipment, and other devices.
