SUNY Brockport is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Network
Administrator to join our IT team. This position will assist in the design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our network infrastructure, with a secondary focus on supporting telecommunications systems. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of networking concepts, a willingness to learn, and the ability to collaborate effectively with other IT staff.
Essential Functions:- Provides Tier 1/Tier 2 support for network-related service requests and incidents.
- Supports the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network equipment, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and UPS systems.
- Monitors network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Supports LAN, WLAN, WAN, and VPN connectivity for users across multiple locations.
- Maintains network documentation, diagrams, and inventory records.
- Contributes to network security initiatives, including updates, patching, security audits and compliance checks.
- Assists team with supporting on-site data center operations including installing and removing data racks, servers, and cable systems, and also monitoring HVAC, and UPS power systems.
- Provides support for voice/phone operations including configuring phones, voice mail, call routing and e911 functions.
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree by the time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Experience with networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, VLANs, switching technologies)
- Experience with network monitoring tools
- Basic understanding of network security principles
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload
- Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with Cisco, Meraki, or similar networking equipment
- Experience with WiFi / WLAN system configuration and performing WLAN Site Surveys
- Familiarity with VoIP systems, voice gateways, voice trunk circuits and telecommunication concepts
Work Schedule:37.5 hours/week: Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 pm, with some flexibility and occasional requests to work non-standard times.
