DescriptionA world-renowned artist studio is hiring an individual to work as a studio assistant to the artist with potential for growth. This dynamic role would be an exciting and unique opportunity to work closely with the artist. This job would require a minimum 5 year agreement. As a studio assistant this person must be cognizant of the extensive role of the galleries and their representatives, including the owners, directors, sales team, and registrars, all of whom represent the artist’s best interests. This individual would gain knowledge of logistical aspects of works traveling to and from the studio and would be required to work with the storage facility that houses many of the artist’s work when necessary. The artist is looking for a highly motivated, well-rounded individual with a positive attitude and good sense of humor, for whom no task is too small. A serious understanding of the work and common sense is necessary to positively contribute to the team atmosphere. A passion for art and knowledge of art history is important. The individual should also have an understanding of the contemporary art world and empathy for the pressures of the artist’s role in the industry. This person would take direction from the artist to efficiently complete a wide variety of tasks. They will be in charge of organizing all travel, including hotels, flights, transportation, and reservations. They would have to learn the artist’s preferences and proactively organize plans accordingly. The assistant would work closely with the artist and team as PA to respond to various emails and invitations, order groceries for the apartment, and organize occasional events. They will work with the accountants, property managers, doormen, and the housekeeper to make sure the artist’s personal life runs smoothly. This assistant would be based in New York City with the ability to travel to domestic and international destinations for prolonged periods of time at a moments notice, and so must have a highly flexible schedule. The assistant must be able to carry themselves with a professional and presentable demeanor at public events and when meeting with top industry leaders. It would be required that the assistant has held previous positions and carries excellent references. Duties:-Assisting the artist with wide range of tasks in the studio including working as art assistant and managing his personal life-Working closely with the studio team on ongoing projects including the artist’s foundation -Organizing all domestic and international travel for the artist while accompanying him on lengthy business trips as a studio assistant-Working with the artist’s accountants and business managers to ensure all business in the studio is run smoothly-Liaising with representatives from the artist’s galleries on logistics, consignments, sales reports, and exhibitions-Working with professionals in museums and creative industries on exhibitions and other projects-Proactively organizing and restocking the artist’s studios with art materials is of the utmost importance in order for the artist to produce his work; taking direction from the artist and team on what materials he needs depending on his daily output-Keeping up to date at all times with the artist’s schedule.-Creating a careful recap of each day’s incoming communications, ongoing projects, and scheduled obligations in the form of “the daily notes” for the artist Qualifications:-BA or MA in Art History or related field-2+ years of experience working as an assistant or manager in an arts related role-Working knowledge and passion for contemporary art-Understanding of painting and art materials used by the artist-Excellent organization skills and efficiency to accurately execute tasks in a fast-paced environment-Excellent verbal and written communication skills-A highly flexible schedule to be available beyond working hours and weekends, and travel with the artist with last minute notice-Knowledge about public relations, communication, and press-Learning the artists priorities creating an effective atmosphere conducive to the artist’s practice-Extreme care when handing valuable artwork-A good listener-Extremely proactive and self-motivated-The ability to work closely with others in a collaborative environment-High level of discretion when working with high profile public figures-A fast learner with excellent creative problem-solving skills-High level of emotional intelligence-A valid driver’s license and valid passport required-Ability to lift 50 pounds and help with manual labor tasks when necessary-Proficiency in Photoshop, InDesign, and Microsoft Office Suite-Experience in SketchUp or 3-D modeling software preferred
