This part-time position supports the studio of Helina Metaferia in the role of Studio & Administrative Assistant. The Studio & Administrative Assistant should be comfortable with working in and related to the Artist’s studio, administrative tasks, and other similar tasks as instructed by the Artist. This position will be both in person in the artist’s studio in the Bronx, NY and virtual as needed. Responsibilities: - Support in the production of collage, sculpture, and installation artwork (painting, cutting, adhering materials together, work with textiles, etc.)- Support in studio organization, supplies, and inventory tracking.- Support in packing, shipping, and dealing with art handlers and art frame shops.- Support in administrative tasks, including emails and calendars.- Support in project management and implementation, using project management online platforms.- Support in research toward projects.- Support with video and photography documentation of projects (equipment provided).- Meet regularly for team meetings in person or virtually with Artist and/or other assistants. - Meet and interact with curators, gallerists, and organizations, supporting the Artist’s projects. Experience Required:- Must have a BFA or MFA, or be in school for this at the time of the position.- Experience in studio art and/or art history.- Experience with or interest in the topics related to the artist’s work, including social justice, activism histories, critical race theory, gender studies, and/or related fields.- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.- Great researching and writing skills.- Great communication and organizational skills. - Must be comfortable with basic photography and video production and editing.- Must have experience with photoshop, premier, in-design, and illustrator.- Must be comfortable working with .TIFF and .JPG files for library scans.- Must be comfortable with working with project management systems (tutorials provided) and google workspace as the primary working and communication platforms.Duration of Employment, Location, & Work Schedule: - This position begins as a six month contract between January and June 2026, with potential for contract renewal. - The Assistant must commit to an average of 10-15 hours a week, though this may vary slightly more or less depending on the phase of the project, vacation hours, etc. - This position has flexible work hours, as long as the project is completed by the given deadlines. The Artist and Assistant will determine the best schedule for the Assistant together, depending on project needs. - The Assistant must live in or be local to New York City. They must be comfortable commuting to the Artist’s studio in the South Bronx, NY up to two days per week.Inherent Opportunities Within The Position:This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to learn more about the in’s and out’s of being a working artist.
