Galerie Gmurzynska is seeking a full-time Preparator with prior gallery or museum experience to join our team in New York. The Preparator is responsible for installing and de-installing artwork for exhibitions, viewings, art fairs, and occasionally clients. The candidate will understand and implement best practices for the handling of art, installation, and storage. The ideal person will be comfortable handling fragile art and objects with sensitivity and discretion. The Preparator reports to the Director in New York.Responsibilities will include:-Safe and professional, handling of artwork mainly from the 20th and 21st century.-Installation and deinstallation of exhibitions and art fairs.-Condition report incoming and outgoing artworks. -Pack artwork and work with the registrar to ship items between the gallery, storage, the gallery in Zurich, to clients, and museums.-Maintain storage within the gallery and off-site storage using the best storage practices including inventory control, tracking, and sharing these details with the registrar.-Orders necessary supplies.-Occasionally fabricate exhibition materials such as a wall plinth or pedestal.-Ability to work on a ladder, adjust lighting, lift over 50 lbs. Safely.-2-3 years’ experience working as an Preparator in a gallery or museum setting.Qualifications and Requirements:-Proficiency with Artlogic and Microsoft Office-Understanding and proven implementation of best practices for the handling, packing, shipping, and storage for all disciplines of art-Excels at establishing priorities, identifying and meeting deadlines, and creating clear and organized schedules.-Financially oriented with the ability to help manage costs and adhere to budgets-Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, professional environment-Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently with colleagues across departments-Professional appearance and demeanor are required at all times-Drivers license and the ability to drive a van and box truck Hours are Monday through Friday, full-time from 10:00AM-6:00PM. The position will occasionally require work outside of regular gallery hours, which is compensated with corresponding days off.
