The Institute for Studies on Latin American Art (ISLAA) seeks a dynamic and strategic Communications Specialist to lead the institute’s digital storytelling and communications efforts. This role is central to shaping ISLAA’s voice across platforms, enhancing its visibility, and connecting key audiences with the organization’s mission to advance the study and global awareness of Latin American art.The Communications Specialist will oversee content creation, digital campaigns, and press initiatives. Working closely with ISLAA’s curatorial and research teams, they will ensure ISLAA’s communications are compelling, consistent, and aligned with institutional values.Key ResponsibilitiesImplement an integrated communications and digital engagement strategy aligned with ISLAA’s missionManage ISLAA’s website, email marketing, and social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) as well as video platforms (YouTube, Vimeo)Produce and coordinate original content—including newsletters, social media posts, and short-form video—for diverse audiencesPlan, write, and produce original content, including newsletters, social media posts, and short-form video, for targeted audiences across all platformsCollaborate with curatorial and research teams to craft engaging narratives and campaign strategies for exhibitions, publications, and eventsMonitor and analyze engagement using analytics tools; adjust strategies to optimize performanceEnsure consistency in ISLAA’s tone, brand voice, visual identity, and institutional messaging across all digital and print communicationsSupervise freelance creatives, including designers, videographers, editors, and web developers, as neededManage and grow ISLAA’s online community, fostering dialogue that reflects the organization’s valuesQualifications and RequirementsMinimum of two (2) years of experience in communications, digital media, or marketing, preferably in the artsStrong editorial, storytelling, and copywriting skills with demonstrated success across platformsProficiency in social media management and growth strategies, including TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedInExperience using Mailchimp, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop), and video editing tools (Premiere Pro)Experience with social media management and growth strategy across platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedInStrong visual and brand sensibility, with familiarity with CMS platforms such as PrismicExcellent project management and organizational skillsFluent in English and Spanish (written and spoken), Portuguese is a plusPassion for modern and contemporary Latin American and/or Latinx artExperience producing video content is strongly preferredAbout ISLAAFounded in 2011 and based in New York City, the Institute for Studies on Latin American Art (ISLAA) expands scholarship, public engagement, and the international visibility of art from Latin America through our program of exhibitions, publishing, research, and partnerships.
