Location: Chelsea, New York, NYPosition Type: Full-timeWinston Wächter Fine Art in NYC is seeking a detail-oriented, forward-thinking, and enthusiastic Gallery Director to lead the daily operations and strategic growth of our gallery. The ideal candidate will bring 4+ years of experience in a contemporary art gallery or related institution, a proven sales record, and strong leadership and managerial skills.The Director will oversee all aspects of gallery management and team, including sales, exhibitions, artist relations, art fair participation, and client development. This position requires a balance of creative vision, business acumen, and operational precision.Key ResponsibilitiesSales & Client Development- Serve as the primary contact for all sales inquiries and collector relationships assisted by Gallery Owner, Assistant and Registrar. - Manage and track incoming requests across all platforms, including Artsy, Arternal, website, and gallery email with Gallery Assistant.- Generate and maintain sales documentation, process invoices, and oversee shipping logistics with Registrar- Cultivate long-term relationships with collectors, advisors, and consultants while developing new client networks.- Collaborate with the Gallery Owner on pricing, and overall sales strategy.Exhibitions- Oversee the planning, production, and execution of all gallery exhibitions.- Work closely with artists and the Registrar on artwork logistics, shipping, installation, and presentation.- Coordinate press and promotional materials in collaboration with the Gallery Assistant.- Organize opening receptions and related client events.Art Fairs- Oversee all aspects of art fair participation, from application to execution.- Coordinate artist selection, booth design, and logistics in partnership with the Gallery Owner and team.- Manage on-site installation, sales, and client outreach.Artist Relations- Serve as the primary liaison for gallery artists.- Conduct studio visits, review new works, and facilitate production and pricing discussions.- Support artists with exhibition planning, visibility, and career development opportunities.Consulting & Advisory- Assist in art advisory projects for private and corporate clients, including sourcing works outside the gallery roster.- Research artists and artworks, assess market value, and coordinate acquisition logistics.Gallery Management & Operations- Oversee all daily gallery operations and act as the central manager for the team, fostering a collaborative, organized, and positive work environment.- Manage scheduling, priorities, and project timelines across the gallery.- Work directly with the gallery’s Owner and accountant on bookkeeping, payments, and financial reporting.- Ensure timely payment of bills and expenses and maintain vendor relationships.- Support the Gallery Owner on long-term strategy, programming, and business development.Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Art History or a related field. - Minimum 4 years of experience in a contemporary art gallery, museum, or auction house.- Proven success in sales, client relations, and gallery management.- Deep knowledge of contemporary art and market trends.- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.- Proficiency with Artsy, Arternal, and other gallery management systems is a plus.- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a small team while managing multiple projects.About the GalleryWinston Wächter Fine Art is a fine art gallery with exhibition spaces in New York City and Seattle.
