The Director of Development is a key senior staff member of Classic Stage Company in New York, NY who demonstrates a passionate commitment for establishing and meeting the contributed income goals that will assist in achieving CSC\'s mission and objectives. The Development Director designs, manages, and implements comprehensive strategies and programs to maximize philanthropic support for the theatre’s priorities and achieve Classic Stage’s fundraising and engagement goals, with a focus on both annual targets and long-term strategies. The Development Director coordinates all development functions for the organization, working in close alliance with CSC leadership and board committees, assembling and mentoring a development staff with excited commitment to the fundraising objectives for the annual operational income and longer-term campaigns. A strong team player and strategic thinker with an intense work ethic, the Development Director is a trusted leader of the development team and is well respected by CSC’s Board, staff, and supporters. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOversee the creation, implementation, and analysis of all fundraising strategies and operations using best industry practices, data, and research, to set goals across all contributed income lines Front-line fundraise with individuals, institutional, government, and corporate donors and collaborate with Board, Producing Artistic Director and Managing Director in these efforts Develop and execute practices to deepen and steward donor, member, and patron engagement. Create collateral and related materials for fundraising and Board Development/retention activities Work with CSC’s Marketing team to execute per show and institutional fundraising messaging and appeals Manage Board development, research, cultivation, and retention Manage Development Department staff, including Individual Giving Officer and Advancement Officer. Act as key Board steward, including managing various Board committees and Board orientation Manage communications for Associate Board and Emeritus Board Oversee event management and planning, including elevated events, Patron cultivation events, and Board-driven events Manage the annual Gala, including event planning, fundraising, Board communications, vendor relationships, and day-of logistics Collaborate with Board on personal fundraising initiatives and conduct Board fundraising training sessions Lead all institutional fundraising (private foundations, government agencies, and corporate support), including grant writing, LOIs, and reporting, as well as cultivating institutional relationships, and researching prospects/new funders Collaborate with other departments on project-specific needs/grants and in-kind support Collaborate with the Marketing department on cross-departmental initiatives and ways of leveraging donations from ticket buyers/members In consultation with the Board development committee, begin charting out a Planned Giving campaign for the company QUALIFICATIONS Minimum 5 years’ experience in professional fundraising demonstrating progressive leadership positions, preferably for an arts organization Proven track record of raising funds from multiple sources Knowledge and experience in fund raising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising Experience planning and executing direct mail appeals, both renewal and acquisition Experience planning and managing fundraising events including large scale galas Experience managing foundation, government, and corporate funding applications and guiding strategy and relationship management for institutional funding sources Superior written and verbal communication skills Goal- and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills Time flexibility, including some evenings and weekends High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word Experience in database management Background or strong interest in the arts, particularly classical theater and arts education Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, highly-motivated self-starter Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred CSC values diversity and provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, parental status, military service, or other non-merit factor. COMPENSATION This is a FT, salaried, exempt role, and eligible for benefits. The expected salary range is $100,000-110,000. CSC employees are expected to be in the office three days/week, remote the other two, and this role will have night and weekend responsibilities around CSC events.
