Jack Shainman Gallery is seeking a qualified, part-time Freelance Art Handler/Preparator to join our team on a two-to-three-day-per-week basis. Weekend availability, including Saturdays and Sundays, may be required.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Safe, professional handling of artwork and material culture spanning from antiquity to the present, with a focus on contemporary art in all media.Installation and de-installation of monthly exhibitions, including condition reporting, photography assistance, and organization of storage areas.Maintenance of both front-of-house and back-of-house spaces, including general housekeeping and gallery upkeep.Proactive identification and communication of repair or maintenance needs across the gallery’s facilities.Light construction tasks and use of hand/power tools, as well as wall, floor, and lighting maintenance.Working at height using ladders or scaffolding; ability to safely lift and move up to 50 lbs. (or more with assistance).Qualifications:Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in galleries, museums, or similar art handling roles (this is not an entry-level position).In-depth knowledge of industry best practices for art handling, installation, and storage.Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a proactive, team-oriented attitude.Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, professional environment.Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently with colleagues across departments.Professional appearance and demeanor are required at all times when interacting with staff, artists, and art world professionals.Compensation:$28.00 – $30.00 per hour, based on experience.
