Matthew Marks Gallery is seeking a full-time Preparator with prior experience in a gallery or museum setting. The role involves installing and de-installing artwork for exhibitions, requiring a thorough understanding of art-handling best practices and installation safety protocols. The ideal candidate will be capable of handling delicate objects with the utmost sensitivity and discretion, working under the supervision of the Senior Director of Exhibitions or the Senior Director of Operations.Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Ensures safe and proper handling, installation and packing of all artwork- Maintains the gallery’s exhibition spaces and storage facilities; including but not limited to preparing, painting, and lighting galleries.- Packs artwork and provides shipping assistance to a team of registrars, including inter-gallery transportation- Assists with exhibition planning and installation- Maintains best storage practices including inventory control and tracking- Procures and manages suppliesKey Skills/Experience: - Undergraduate degree- Knowledge of modern and contemporary art and familiarity with artists’ materials- General understanding of carpentry and electrical work- Has a clean driving record and professional experience driving sprinter vans within the NYC metro area- Organized, detail-oriented, industrious, self-motivated, with good interpersonal and communication skills- Ability to handle high volume and complexity in a time-sensitive manner- Thorough knowledge of art-handling best practices and installation safety- Experience using inventory database is a plus Competitive compensation, health insurance, 401K, paid vacation, and holidays.
