Atelier Fine Art Services is seeking motivated, responsible and qualified Art Technicians and Senior Art Technicians as part of the art handling department in New York City. The Art Technician at Atelier is an experienced Art Handler and supervisor who is both a skilled technician and oversees several Art Handlers and Sr. Art Handlers. The Art Technician reports to Project Managers and is an expert in all areas of Art Handling best practices, who performs site visits, exhibits excellent communication skills with clients and acts as intermediary between Operations/Client Services and Art Handling. TSA screening assistance, with annual recurrent training.Art handling of artworks of various media.Activities such as unframing and reframing of paintings and works on paper may be required, securing new hardware to frames, removal of objects from display cases, and the set-up and dismantling of scaffolding and ladders may be required.Responsible for keeping work space and collection storage areas maintained and clean.Transporting, loading and unloading of artworks and supplies.Navigation or driving to project location along with teammate(s).Condition reporting, facilitating of digital BOLs and other forms of client communication as necessary.Open and close shop.Requirements:BA or BFA with at least 4 to 6 years of experience senior art handling and commensurate supervisory experience for museums, cultural institutions, or galleries.Excellent understanding and judgment in the handling and conveyance of collection objects as it relates to the condition, media, placement, and weight of objects.Excellent verbal and written communication skills which will be used with colleagues and clients.Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.Softpacking skills; familiarity with hand tools such as drills, hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches.Enjoy working in a collaborative environment and capable of supervising onsite project teams.Ability to complete DOT Medical Exam if driving.Physically capable of lifting objects weighing up to 80 pounds; physically capable of moving objects weighing up to 150 pounds; and physically capable of climbing ladders up to 20 feet and working on scaffolding and lifts of at least 30 feet; physically capable of using hand tools such as drills, hammer, screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches.Somewhat regular computer use, regular Ipad use, plus the ability to see and ascertain the condition of artworks as they are being handled.Telephone use, and ability to hear instructions as an object is being handled and moved.Drivers license required. Experience driving 26ft box trucks required. (CDL not required.)
