About the Studio:We are an established and fast-paced painting studio led by a renowned contemporary artist, specializing in oil on canvas and panel. The studio produces a high volume of large-scale, museum-quality works and commissioned pieces. We are seeking an experienced Studio Assistant to join our tight-knit team and play a key role in the preparation, fabrication, and execution of artworks.Position Overview:The Production Coordinator will work closely with the artist and studio team to support the production of oil paintings. This is a hands-on role focused on the technical and material aspects of painting production—ranging from building and prepping surfaces to overseeing resin applications—along with coordinating the execution of commissions and managing production timelines.Key Responsibilities:Fabricate and prepare canvases and wood panels, including building, stretching, gessoing, sanding, and applying base oil paint colors and backgrounds according to studio standards.Apply and cure resin finishes on works, sometimes in tandem with other materials; maintain best practices in safety and finish quality.Support the artist in all technical stages of painting production.Coordinate timelines and logistics for commissions, collaborating closely with the studio and sales teams to track contracts and ensure deliverables are met.Handle, move, and store artwork with the highest level of care and professionalism.Maintain a clean and organized studio environment, and manage inventory of materials and tools.Monitor and maintain production schedules to keep projects on track and within scope.Required Qualifications:Experience in a professional fine art or artist studio setting.Extensive hands-on experience preparing canvases and wood panels for oil painting.Deep knowledge and skill in applying and curing resin on artworks.Demonstrated experience managing the execution of custom or commissioned artworks.Excellent organizational and time management skills.Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with studio and administrative teams.A well-trained eye and acute attention to detail and finish.Experience with artwork handling, packing, and transport.Ability to safely lift and move large artworks.Preferred Qualifications:Familiarity with studio workflow management or project tracking tools.Background in painting, fabrication, or conservation a plus.
