The primary focus of Susan Sheehan Gallery is to create highly curated presentations of postwar American masterworks of printmaking and prints by 20th century European masters including Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. The gallery puts great emphasis on rigorous scholarship, connoisseurship, and the relevancy of each work. Susan Sheehan is a leading expert in prints from the seminal era that spans the decades of the 1960s through the 1990s which saw artists such as Vija Celmins, Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Joan Mitchell, Ed Ruscha, Cy Twombly, and Andy Warhol incorporating the medium as a central element of their artistic practices.Susan Sheehan Gallery is looking for a writer to research and write essays for various projects:- weekly newsletters, usually highlighting a specific work of art- exhibition press releases, typically every 8 weeks- art fair e-catalogues, typically 5 or 6 essays for 4 art fairs per yearThe essays should introduce and explain the works in context, inviting viewers to engage the works in a meaningful way. Auction house catalogue writing experience is a plus and the ideal candidate will have a graduate degree or be in the process of obtaining one.Requirements:- BA or higher in art history or a related field- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills- Exceptional research, writing, proofreading, and editing skills- Must be extremely detail-oriented and able to prioritize and work on multiple projects at once- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines- Knowledge of print making techniques and general knowledge of artist making prints from the period we specialize in is strongly preferred
