Bookkeeping Manager Responsibilities:
Oversee Daily Bookkeeping Operations
- Manage day-to-day recording of financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll entries.
- Maintain accurate general ledger activity and ensure all entries are properly categorized and timely.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and deliver accurate financial reports tailored to leadership and client needs.
- Communicate financial insights clearly to support informed business decisions.
- Highlight key performance trends and variances for leadership and clients.
Reconciliation & Records Management
- Perform and review monthly bank, credit card, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready financial records using accounting software and internal tracking systems.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closings.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure bookkeeping practices comply with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies.
- Manage documentation and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Coordinate with CPAs and auditors to support tax filings and audits.
Team Leadership & Client Account Management
- Supervise and mentor bookkeeping staff, reviewing their work for accuracy.
- Maintain strong working relationships with clients and internal departments.
- Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and expand support.
Process Improvement & Industry Knowledge
- Stay informed on accounting standards, tax law changes, and bookkeeping technology.
- Refine workflows to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Strengthen financial operations through continuous process improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with operations, HR, and leadership to support budgeting, payroll, and financial planning.
- Work with internal teams to ensure smooth information flow and strong financial oversight.
- Support onboarding of new clients or accounts and coordinate handoffs between bookkeeping, accounting, and tax functions.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting (public accounting, in-house, or multi-client environments).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
- Proven ability to manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including AP/AR, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Xero, Sage, NetSuite, or similar) or willingness to learn.
- Strong organization, time management, and follow-through discipline, especially around month-end deadlines.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently while managing multiple accounts.
- Strong analytical thinking with the ability to identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for process improvement.
