This role supports the School’s public-facing communications across email, web, and print, working closely with staff across departments to ensure clear, consistent, and engaging messaging. This is an ideal opportunity for a detail-oriented communicator with strong writing and design skills who is comfortable balancing multiple projects in a dynamic arts environment. During this period, particular emphasis will be placed on the design and production of materials supporting the School’s fundraising and development initiatives. This position will report directly to the Director of Development and collaborate closely with the Dean and Director of Admissions & Student Service. Key Responsibilities: General Communications Support-Manage and review the overall organizational communications calendar and task tracking-Facilitate weekly communications meetings with staff -Align messaging across departments to ensure consistency and timing-Advise on advertising, marketing, social media, and recruitment strategies Email Communications (mailchimp)-Plan and manage email calendar across departments (Admissions, Public Programs, Development, Alumni, and general School announcements)-Write, design, and build email campaigns using existing templates, coordinating with staff to gather content and secure approvals for distribution-Produce and manage School and alumni newsletters, collaborating with colleagues to gather content and writing, copy editing, and formatting on a quarterly and as-needed basis Website Management (nyss.org)-Maintain and update website content across all sections-Publish listings for classes, exhibitions, lectures, and special events-Edit and publish articles for the NYSS Journal-Post alumni news and updates-Liaise with an external web developer on larger updates or technical issues Graphic Design – Print and Capital Campaign Materials-Design and produce a cohesive suite of campaign and institutional materials, including informational PDFs, pledge cards, brochures, postcards, posters, event invitations, donor decks, and other print materials.-Prepare press‑ready files and coordinate with printers, ensuring correct specifications, bleeds, and export settings.-Produce the Fall Evening Lecture Series brochure as needed, using an existing design template. Qualifications-Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills-Experience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp preferred)-Familiarity with website content management systems (Wordpress preferred)-Graphic design experience (Adobe Creative Suite or similar, InDesign and Photoshop preferred)-Ability to work collaboratively across departments and to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently We welcome candidates with communications experience in arts, higher education, or other mission‑driven nonprofit environments.
