Location: Saugerties, NY (Hybrid; minimum 2 days onsite)
Schedule: 20 hours per week (potential to go full-time in 2026), flexible schedule
Compensation: 30,000-35,000 Per Year

CAS is one of the world’s leading teaching sanctuaries, located on approximately 100 acres in New York’s Hudson Valley. We are home to more than 150 rescued animals across and several species Our dedicated staff of 30, together with many volunteers, welcome thousands of visitors each year through our tours, programs, and humane education initiatives.
Your Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will:
- Provide trusted HR guidance: conduct thorough employee investigations and advise leadership on resolution, promote and advise leaders on progressive discipline and carefully craft employee write ups/PIPs, oversee personnel records, and collaborate with leadership on sensitive matters.
- Lead recruitment and hiring: design job descriptions, manage candidate pipelines, conduct interviews, coordinate onboarding, and oversee exit surveys.
- Build culture & recognition: maintain employee recognition programs, celebrate wins, and foster connection.
- Strengthen policies & practices: ensure compliance with employment laws, implement JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) principles and programs, and promote HR best practices.
- Support staff development: implement training, team-building, and 360° performance reviews; coach and advise managers.
- Own employee leave process and outcomes: Manage all workers’ comp and employee leave cases. Help employees and leadership navigate and understand leaves and pay implications
- Employee benefits: Act as site liaison with benefits vendor. Manage annual enrollment process and educate employees on benefits offerings and costs.
- Advance organizational learning: research and recommend tools, training, and resources to enhance operations and staff growth.
Who You Are
- At least 5 years of HR experience, with success across the full HR lifecycle.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management and/or PHR/SHRM Certifications
- Proven track record in recruitment and retention.
- Knowledgeable in employment law, HR best practices, and JEDI initiatives.
- Skilled in training facilitation, performance management, and employee relations.
- Strong communicator with excellent emotional intelligence, discretion, and trustworthiness.
- Creative, curious, and proactive problem solver.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
