The Center for Brooklyn History (CBH) is Brooklyn Public Library\'s nationally recognized research library and public history institution. Free and open to all, CBH provides visitors with dynamic ways to connect with Brooklyn\'s story through its historical collections, enlightening programs, educational resources, and wide-ranging exhibitions. CBH is seeking a contracted School & Teen Programs Educator to work with the education department. The educator will teach K-12 Field Trips offered Mondays—Thursdays during the school year, lead up to two (2) adult public tours per month, and run CBH\'s Summer Scholars high school internship program over the summer. The educator will also assist with various education events as needed, including NYC History Day. Responsibilities: K-12 Field Trips: Lead interactive, inquiry-based field trips for K-12 students exploring Brooklyn\'s rich and diverse history. Lead field trips multiple times per week during the school year on Mondays—Thursdays. Field Trips last 90 minutes and require additional (paid) prep time. CBH Field Trips include content-based offerings that explore various topics through archival collections in the Othmer Library, CBH\'s rotating exhibitions, and hands-on activities as well as skills-based offerings that help students engage with primary sources and archival research.Summer Scholars High School Internship: In partnership with the Assistant Director of Education, plan and facilitate Summer Scholars, a paid high school internship program that allows students to explore public history work through the lens of local archives. Plan student field trips, coordinate guest sessions with CBH staff, and make updates to the current internship curriculum based on student feedback from the summer 2026 cohort. With the Assistant Director of Education and Education Coordinator, review applications and conduct interviews to build internship cohorts. Lead the Summer Scholars internship program three days a week for four weeks in July / August. Adult Tours: In collaboration with CBH’s Chief Historian, lead and assist in developing docent-style adult public tours focused on CBH’s rotating exhibitions, and general building history and architecture. Lead up to two tours per month. CBH public tours last 60 minutes and take place Friday afternoons and Saturdays. Scheduling of tours will be subject to CBH’s calendar and the educator’s availability. Additional Responsibilities:Support the Education team annually during the New York City History Day (NYCHD) event, where students in grades 6-12 present projects based on original historical research and analysis. NYCHD takes place on a Sunday in late February or early March at Central Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn, NY 11238. Attend (paid) trainings, meetings, and team professional development opportunities throughout the year. Required Skills: Bachelor’s degree in education, history, art history, or museum studies preferred At least two years of experience teaching K-12 students in an informal education setting Experience developing and leading high school internships or other educational programming for teen audiences Experience developing and leading public / adult tours Understanding of inquiry-based and object-based learning Strong facilitation skills and ability to foster welcoming and engaging learning environments Experience working with diverse learners Experience conducting archival research and handling archival materials is a plus Experience working with students with disabilities is a plus Ability to lead programming in English and Spanish is a plus Location and Availability: Educator must be available to pick up field trip programs as booked at least two days per week (Monday—Thursday), lead up to two adult tours per month on Friday afternoons or Saturdays, and lead the Summer Scholars program Tuesdays—Thursdays for four weeks in July / August.
