ABOUT MARQUIS STUDIOSFounded in 1977, Marquis Studios\' roster of experienced Teaching Artists provides a full spectrum of arts experiences in more than 150 schools across all five boroughs of New York City, directly serving over 25,000 students each year. Our programs provide high-quality arts instruction aligned with the New York State Arts Learning Standards while integrating social-emotional learning (SEL) and culturally responsive-sustaining education (CR-SE) practices. Each residency is thoughtfully tailored to the unique needs of the school community.Prior to the start of each residency, Teaching Artists and Classroom Teachers meet to discuss educational goals, as well as students\' strengths and needs to ensure a responsive and engaging experience for students. More than a one-time program, Marquis Studios partners with the entire school community through professional development for school staff and family workshops to create sustainable high quality art programming for all (www.marquisstudios.org).Job Description Marquis Studios Teaching Artists lead in-school residencies, after-school residencies and workshops in New York City public schools. Our Teaching Artists work primarily with students in elementary schools, middle schools and extensively in District 75 schools, serving students with disabilities. Teaching Artists are responsible for creating engaging, well scaffolded and inclusive lessons aligned with Marquis Studios’ Best Teaching Practices while working collaboratively with classroom teachers to meet their students’ varying needs throughout their assigned residencies. Each residency results in a culminating event or an informal sharing that demonstrates skills that students have developed while participating in the program. We are currently accepting applications for Teaching Artists with experience in: · Dance – Hip-Hop, African, Bollywood, Bhangra, and other Cultural Dances with strong experience working with students with disabilities· Music- Percussion, Music & Rhythm, Songwriting · Visual Arts *Please review the specific types of classes we teach within these disciplines on our website: https://www.marquisstudios.org/programs/school-programs Duties & Responsibilities· Be available to teach in-school and after-school programs a minimum of two full days per week.· Maintain occasional availability to facilitate 90-minute workshops on weekday afternoons or Saturday mornings.· Develop original curriculum that integrates Marquis Studios best teaching practices including alignment with state arts standards, school curriculum, social emotional learning competencies and culturally responsive sustaining pedagogy.· Collaborate and communicate with classroom teachers and school administrators before and during the residency to establish program goals, schedule and culminating event expectations· Foster engaging, inclusive learning environments where students:o Build artistic skills, creativity and confidence.o Develop critical thinking and social-emotional competencies.o Explore diverse cultural perspectives and community connections, with an emphasis on historically marginalized voices.· Fulfill required professional development including:o Attendance at Fall and Spring all-staff PD Days.o Two additional professional development opportunities each school year.· Complete administrative tasks by assigned deadline including unit plans, planning forms, post- residency surveys, timesheets. Ideal qualities / skill set: · Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA)· Experience working with students with disabilities across a range of settings· Knowledge of the NYC arts education landscape· Bilingual or multilingual proficiency· Experience working with multilingual learners· Excellent verbal and written communication skills· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build authentic relationships with students, educators, and school communities.· Highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectivelyQualifications Bachelor’s degree or proven experience working in K-12 classrooms.A minimum of two years teaching arts programming to Pre-K-8th grade students. Artists must display expertise in arts discipline of interest through educational and professional accomplishments.Ability to balance process and product and create an informal culminating event within 10 – 12 weeks.Ability to create well-thought out lessons and successfully integrate arts education standards.Ability to differentiate and adapt material to meet the needs of varying students and communitiesAvailability to facilitate year-long programming.Flexibility to travel throughout the 5 boroughs – Staten Island & Car a plus.
