Based in Poughkeepsie, we help young people in the Hudson Valley explore, experience, and excel in the arts, introducing them to visual arts and media, giving them the opportunity to develop real skills in these fields, and guiding them toward achieving their academic and career goals. JOB DESCRIPTION The Art Effect seeks a full-time Program Manager to lead the PK B.A.Y. (Poughkeepsie Board of Artistic Youth) program. The PK B.A.Y. is a creative workforce and civic engagement initiative that provides hands-on training and career development for youth ages 14–20 while serving as a model for youth voice and leadership in the City of Poughkeepsie. The program runs in multiple sessions throughout the year, each serving approximately 20 youth per session. Youth participants collaborate on creating community events and arts-based community development and civic engagement projects. They also develop essential workplace skills such as leadership, communication and time management. The Program Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the PK B.A.Y. program including designing and implementing an arts-based, community-engagement curriculum, teaching and supervising youth participants, and ensuring the successful day-to-day operations of the PK B.A.Y. The Program Manager will oversee youth involvement in the development of community events such as the PKX Festival, lead recruitment, and develop strategic partnerships with guest artists, local leaders, and peer organizations. They will also maintain communication with high school administration regarding youth attendance. The position requires an organized and creative individual with a commitment to positive youth development practices and a demonstrated ability to guide youth ages 14-20 through professional skill-building and artistic expression while working as a collaborative team member to strengthen relationships with youth and the community. Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail are essential. The Program Manager will report to the Director of Programs. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES ● Serve as Program Manager for the PK B.A.Y. workforce program, including curriculum design and supervision of youth in developing creative community experiences in the Youth Arts Empowerment Zone. ● Lead recruitment efforts to enroll youth participants in the PK B.A.Y. program and represent The Art Effect at tabling events and recruitment opportunities ● Manage student intake (application, qualification and employment paperwork, database registration) and creation of program rosters ● Mentor youth at varying skill levels in audience experience, public engagement, arts administration, and leadership. ● Oversee youth involvement in the planning and implementation of the PKX Festival and other outreach events. ● Act as Project Manager for the PKX Festival, including oversight of guest artists/performers, logistics, and event execution. ● Develop and coordinate strategic partnerships with guest artists, local leaders, schools, and community organizations; serve as the primary liaison for PK B.A.Y. core partners. ● Communicate with high school administration regarding daily attendance of program participants. ● Collaborate with the marketing department to develop communications content and outreach strategies. ● Work with the Director of Programs to generate and track data and narratives for grant reports. ● Conduct portfolio and resume development trainings with students. ● Manage PK B.A.Y. teaching artists, interns and volunteers. ● Manage program supplies ordering, budget expenditure and tracking. ● Support student job/internship placements and college interests. ● Research best practices for youth development, community placemaking, and arts-based civic engagement. ● Provide on-site leadership at PK B.A.Y. related events and community cleanups.
