The property is a luxury, boutique property located in Ulster County, New York. It features a moderate number of guestrooms, on-site restaurant and food & beverage facilities, event space and various property amenities/offerings.

Position Overview

The General Manager will be responsible for the oversight of the property’s operations including but not limited to reservations, front desk operations, food and beverage operations, sales and marketing, revenue management, housekeeping and maintenance, guest relations, and personnel supervision. The General Manager oversees all aspects of the property in accordance with the hotel’s mission statement, including maximization of financial performance, guest satisfaction, and staff development within established quality standards.

The General Manager reports directly to the management company of the property.

Supervisory

The General Manager oversees all hotel personnel.

Responsibilities

The essential functions of the General Manager position include but are not limited to the following tasks, including both pre-opening and post-opening efforts.

Overall Strategy & Scope

o Oversee all aspects of operations by exercising demonstrated knowledge and experience in all phases of hotel management, including sales and marketing, human resources, food and beverage, budget and forecast management, rooms, housekeeping and maintenance

o Act as the owners’ and management’s representative on the project, coordinating all of the pre-opening activities on hotel and coordinate with the construction team, the construction timeline and act as a liaison between hotel personnel, construction contractors and management

o Build a rapport with ownership by partnering closely with them and work to understand their priorities and exceed their expectations

o Maintain constant contact with management team to provide on-going updates and progress on action items

o Assist the management team in the sourcing and evaluation of potential associates in varying positions

o Make key decisions and oversee execution, remove obstacles to success and ensure appropriate resources are available to achieve business results

o Drive the brand knowledge and recognition efforts for the brand, working hand in hand with the ownership

o Provide the vision, leadership and strategy to inspire any hired associates or consultants to deliver exceptional service and drive financial success

o Be able to read, write, and verbally communicate effectively and professionally in English with associates, guests, and ownership

o Be able to deal with difficult situations and people, while exhibiting a consistent level of professionalism

o Perform all other duties as assigned

Financial & Accounting

o Assist and coordinate timely budget and forecasts regarding, but not limited to business levels, financial requirements, personnel needs and organization plans needed to support operations

o Monitor cost controls on a regular basis to ensure pre-opening budget is in line

o Analyze business results and work with the hotel staff to develop effective strategies to address needs

o Achieve targets for revenue, profit and sales growth

Revenue Management

o Review reservations made daily to ensure that all guest information is provided, reservation information is accurate and special requests are recognized and acknowledged

Sales & Marketing

o Work with the hotel sales and marketing and revenue management consultants to establish opening dates, packages and sales strategies

o Review the project’s competitive set to stay up to date on their sales and revenue management strategies, as well as any potential renovations or program changes

o Communicate with all PR, sales and marketing requests and coordinate responses with ownership’s PR team

o Analyze business results and work with the hotel staff to develop effective strategies to address needs

o Achieve targets for revenue, profit and sales growth

o Function as primary strategic leader of the hotel with responsibility for all sales & marketing aspects of the operation, including financial performance and sales and revenue generation

o Coordinate any appropriate press responses with ownership’s PR team

o Oversee social media management on hotel pages

Repairs & Maintenance

o Conduct research of equipment, materials, supplies and methods, sourcing and negotiating qualified supplier or contractors' bids, reviewing contracts, and quality control during all stages of the project

o Assist with the setup of property related systems and programs including but not limited to POS, PMS, ding reservations, etc.

o Conduct periodic walk through site visits of the project to ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations, as well as progress, and identify any potential issues as soon as possible

o Ensure policy development and documentation

o Coordinate capital improvement projects to maintain/upgrade quality standards and property image, and to protect the asset from neglect, damage or deterioration

Human Resources

o Oversee employee development and training with emphasis on customer care and standards of performance, and conduct regular staff and employee meetings

Administrative & General

o Establish necessary hotel Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure efficient and effective operations on-site

o Prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure team has solid foundation to execute duties at the property

Recruit new staff members as needed

Maintain and exceed standards in quality expected of owner and other external bodies

Ensure policy development and documentation

Provide direction for all departments

Supervise maintenance, supplies, renovations and furnishings

Ensure that security is effective throughout the property

Conduct routine property inspections to ensure compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations

Meet and greet customers, deal with complaints and comments and address problems and trouble shooting

Be aware of the importance of safety and security at all times

Endeavor to be conscious of safety and security at all times

Requirements/Skills

Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience as a General Manager of a boutique hotel property desired

Strong verbal and written English skills, with Spanish a plus

Dress appropriately for the job with the required attire and/or uniform and maintain proper personal hygiene. Refer to Employee Handbook for more information

Strong leadership skills and act as a role model to all employees, leading with initiative, drive and enthusiasm

Be self-motivated and have the ability to inspire, motivate and lead a team

Solid knowledge of accommodation operational management

Knowledge of sales and marketing – developing strategies, sales plans and profit targets

Knowledge of revenue financials (RevPAR) and occupancy rates

Proven revenue management skills

Excellent sales and negotiating skills

Refined skills in public relations

Proficient planning and organizational skills

Knowledge of basic computer skills and computer accounting programs

Excellent IT skills – including computerized systems, Windows XP, Word, Excel and Outlook with working knowledge of hotel reception PMS & internet reservation systems

Flexible and happy to work shifts as required to manage the business to the expectations of the owner

Plan, organize, and perform professional level event planning, coordinating and booking duties

Work independently with general supervision; learn and interpret laws, rules, regulations, and policies and apply them to specific cases with good judgment

Perform analytical studies and draw sound conclusions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population

Have knowledge and skills of generally accepted Hotel policies and procedures

Be able to lift approximately 30 pounds of supplies when needed

Travel

General Manager will be traveling, as needed, within the Hudson Valley and in New York City for sales calls and sales generating appointments.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
