Job Summary: Little Water Prep Charter School is seeking a reliable, proactive, and detail-oriented Facilities Lead to oversee the cleanliness, safety, and daily operational readiness of our school building. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a welcoming, healthy, and functional learning environment for students, staff, and families. The Facilities Lead responsibilities include ensuring building readiness daily, with deep cleaning required during school closures and preparation for special events. Tasks include, but are not limited to, floor waxing, carpet shampooing, classroom sanitation, and monitoring the overall condition of the facility.
The Facilities Lead is responsible for supervising Facilities Associates, coordinating daily custodial operations, managing inventory and supplies, opening and securing the building, and serving as an on-call contact for urgent building-related issues outside of school hours. This role also requires efficient handyman and building maintenance skills, including performing minor repairs, troubleshooting facility issues, completing preventative maintenance tasks, and coordinating emergency repairs with outside vendors when necessary.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on team player who takes pride in maintaining high standards, works well independently and collaboratively, and demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Janitorial Duties:
- Cleaning & Sanitization:
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, and common areas.
- Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and other urgent cleaning needs throughout the school day.
- Regularly disinfect high-touch surfaces to support a healthy school environment.
- Conduct routine walkthroughs to ensure all areas remain clean, safe, and well maintained.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, buff, and wax floors as needed.
- Maintain rugs through spot-cleaning and scheduled deep cleaning.
- Waste Management:
- Empty trash and recycling bins and dispose of waste in designated areas.
- Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary waste disposal and storage areas.
- Restroom Maintenance:
- Clean and disinfect restrooms throughout the day.
- Replenish soap, paper products, and other supplies as needed.
- Respond to/ report plumbing or maintenance concerns promptly.
- Event & School Support:
- Support school operations during special events. Assist with set up and break down of events.
Facilities Lead Duties:
- Team Supervision:
- Supervise and support Facilities Associates in completing daily assignments and projects.
- Delegate responsibilities effectively to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
- Promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable work environment.
- Inventory & Equipment Management:
- Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, maintenance materials, and equipment and notify the Operations Manager when supplies need to be reordered.
- Ensure all tools, equipment, and storage areas remain organized, secure, and properly maintained.
- Building Operations & Readiness:
- Open the building daily and ensure all systems and spaces are operational and ready for use.
- Secure the building at the end of each day following school dismissal and after school activities.
- Ensure the facility is properly prepared for the following school day.
- Serve as the primary on-call contact for building-related emergencies outside of school hours.
- Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform minor building repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot facility issues related to lighting, plumbing, doors, fixtures, and general building operations.
- Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for larger or emergency repairs when needed.
- Maintain maintenance logs and communicate repair needs to Operations Manager.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper use of cleaning agents and safety standards.
- Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor.
- Participate in regular training sessions on safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in custodial services, facilities maintenance, building operations, or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated handyman and basic building repair experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced school environment.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and reliability.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, and stand for extended periods as required by the role.
- Flexibility to respond to occasional after-hours facility needs or emergencies.
Working Conditions:
- Work may occur indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals, maintenance equipment, and physical labor.
- Position may require flexible scheduling, including early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekends.
Benefits:
- Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 (commensurate with experience)
