The Director of Communications and Public Engagement at the Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU leads the ICA’s overall marketing, communications, and audience engagement strategy. Reporting to the Executive Director and collaborating closely with VCU and VCUarts leadership, this role is responsible for strengthening the ICA’s brand, increasing public visibility, and deepening community engagement through storytelling, digital media, public relations, and strategic communications.Key responsibilities include developing integrated marketing campaigns, shaping the ICA’s brand narrative, managing digital engagement and editorial content, and overseeing communications across exhibitions, performances, publications, podcasts, and public programs. The role also supervises the communications team and external creative partners.The position requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills, including the ability to manage cross-functional projects, evaluate audience engagement efforts, build partnerships with media and community stakeholders, and support visitor growth, program attendance, and fundraising initiatives.
