The
Senior Groundskeeper is a non-competitive class civil service position and is responsible for participation and supervision of all facets of campus grounds greenspace, athletic fields, hiking trails, and hard surface area maintenance using power equipment and hand tools. Grounds include lawns, trees, shrubbery, athletic fields, recreation areas, parking lots, roadways, and walks. Supervision of others performing grounds keeping work may be required. Able to operate grounds keeping equipment for 8 hour shift. Periods of lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, standing, walking, and use of ladders are required. Able to work outside in all types of weather conditions.

- Mowing, trimming, and raking lawns
- Maintain Shrub and flower beds including planting, trimming, mulching and weeding
- Operates snow removing equipment to clear snow and ice from parking lots, roadways, and walks
- Pick up trash from parking lots, lawns, and trash containers
- Performs routine maintenance on grounds keeping equipment
- Applies fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides as directed
- Plants, prunes, and cuts trees when necessary
- Maintaining and sweeping parking lots and roads
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Good knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance of grounds, parking lots, driveways and recreational areas
- Ability to operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools related to the maintenance of grounds
- Ability to oversee the work of others
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
- High School Diploma
- 2 years’ experience in grounds maintenance
- Valid driver’s license
- Possess or able to obtain NYSDEC pesticide applicator license in first year of employment
