Canyon seeks a full-time Exhibitions Producer to lead all exhibition planning, fabrication, and production.Canyon is a nonprofit arts venue opening in 2026 on the Lower East Side of NYC, dedicated to the exhibition of time-based media art and performance.Position OverviewThe Exhibitions Producer reports directly to Canyon\'s Vice President of Art & Technology. This position joins a small team of arts professionals and will be integral to the organization\'s development as it prepares for a Fall 2026 opening. The Exhibitions Producer leads the exhibitions division, managing a small and hands-on team of three, while sometimes coordinating with outside exhibition designers and fabricators. This role requires exceptional project management skills to define and manage all exhibition timelines and budgets, coupled with a deadline-oriented sense of urgency and a proven knack for cost-control, ensuring efficient execution of Canyon\'s program. The ideal candidate will bring extensive hands-on experience in time-based media exhibition production, proven leadership abilities, and the organizational expertise to juggle multiple complex projects simultaneously. The job will involve in-gallery, hands-on work alongside your team as needed, and will involve frequent overlap and tight coordination of staff and equipment resources with the institution’s performing arts program (which will present some 3-4 performances per month, often utilizing shared staff and equipment resources).Key Responsibilities:Lead and manage the exhibitions division, supervising two AV technicians and a registrar.Coordinate and oversee relationships with outside exhibition designers and contractors.Define, develop, and manage comprehensive exhibition timelines from conception through de-installation.Oversee all technical aspects of time-based media and performance exhibitions.Develop and maintain exhibition budgets in collaboration with leadership.Coordinate cross-departmentally to align exhibition schedules with programming, development, and marketing initiatives.Coordinate with the events producer to provide staff support (often the AV technicians) to performing arts eventsEstablish and maintain production workflows, systems, and best practices for the exhibitions department.Manage vendor relationships for specialized equipment and technical services.Oversee exhibition documentation and archival processes.Ensure the highest possible standards for display are being upheld.Required Qualifications:Minimum 5 years of professional experience in exhibition production, preferably with time-based media and performance artDemonstrated excellence in project management with the ability to handle multiple complex timelines simultaneouslyProven experience managing teams and coordinating with external contractorsDeep knowledge of AV systems, media art, and ample hands-on experience, including overhead riggingSuperior organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilitiesDesired skills and qualifications Experience with contemporary art institutions focused on time-based media or performance.Technical expertise in video, sound, and interactive media installationsAbility to work on ladders and lifts, at heightsWorking knowledge of theatrical and overhead riggingExperience as a direct supervisor to one or more reportsFamiliarity with basic registration and collections management practicesFamiliarity with CAD software and exhibition design toolsExperience working with living artists and estates
