The job purpose of a Cashier is to efficiently and accurately process customer transactions, provide exceptional customer service, and maintain a welcoming and tidy checkout environment, thereby contributing to a positive shopping experience and ensuring the accurate handling of store funds.
Transaction Processing: Accurately scanning products, entering correct prices, handling various forms of payment (cash, credit/debit, checks, coupons, gift cards), and providing correct change.
Customer Service: Greeting customers warmly, answering questions, assisting with bagging, resolving minor issues or escalating them, and generally creating a friendly and helpful atmosphere.
Accuracy & Accountability: Ensuring the register balances correctly at the end of the shift, minimizing errors in scanning and cash handling, and adhering to all store policies regarding transactions.
Checkout Area Maintenance: Keeping the checkout lane clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies (bags, receipt paper, etc.).
Product Knowledge: Possessing basic knowledge of store products, prices, and promotions to assist customers and ensure correct scanning.
Loss Prevention: Being vigilant for potential theft or fraud and following established procedures to minimize losses.
Compliance: Adhering to all store procedures, safety guidelines, and legal regulations regarding sales and payments.
Professional Conduct and Communication: Following management instructions, providing constructive feedback, completing all required training (including on company technologies and equipment), adhering to company policies and health regulations, and operating powered equipment only if trained. Performing all other duties as assigned by management.
Demonstrate basic math and English language proficiency.
Meet physical demands: stand, walk, crouch, bend, stretch, regularly lift 25 lbs., up to 50 lbs., and perform duties that require significant walking, pushing, and pulling of equipment.
Hourly Pay Range: $15.50-$16.50
This position is eligible for vision, dental, life insurance, and legal plan benefits, which become available on a graduated basis over time according to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement (“CBA”). Paid time off (sick time, personal days, vacation days, and holidays) will accrue on a graduated basis over time in accordance with the CBA. Retirement benefits (pension or 401k) become available over time in accordance with the CBA.
