The City of Atlantic Beach is hiring for DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS. This position performs managerial work planning, coordinating and directing all public works related projects and tasks in the City, including engineering and technical services, traffic signs, public lands and buildings, solid waste services, streets and drainage systems, stormwater treatment and permitting, and maintenance of City vehicles. Assists the City Manager in long-range planning concerning public works and general engineering. Serves in a key manager capacity, with considerable independent judgment, representing the City Manager as needed. Work is performed under general supervision of the City Manager and performance is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted and results obtained.
Plan, direct, organize and schedule work of all City Public Works Divisions; interview, make hiring recommendations and evaluate performance of subordinates engaged in the direction of each Division; oversee the direction of employees and consultants engaged by the City.
Develop and administer departmental budget, monitor expenditures to ensure proper use of funds; exercise authority to approve departmental expenditures; negotiate and manage contracts for various public works projects.
Develop long-range goals, objectives, policies and priorities for the Public Works Department; prepare a 10-year Capital Improvement Program.
Investigate and resolve public complaints and requests according to established policies and guidelines; consult with City Manager and make recommendations on matters not covered by specific policies and guidelines.
Coordinate with the Neighborhoods Department regarding Parks and Recreation staffing and equipment needs.
Coordinate with and support Public Utilities and the City Engineer, as requested.
Assist City Manager with long-range planning of streets, transportation and drainage matters; represent the City and coordinate activities on public works and engineering matters with City, State and Federal officials.
Coordinate with City Engineer on engineering studies and submit required reports and make recommendations to City Manager and City Commission.
